Abstract

This article is descriptive qualitative. The topic discussed in this article is the philosophical foundation of Chomsky’s thought which has had a major influence on the development of linguistics in the past decade. This thought gave birth to the Chomsky followers called the “school of Chomskyan”. The philosophical foundation of Chomsky’s linguistic paradigm stems from the statement that language is just something that doesn’t exist or something artificial and considered ridiculous. However, Chomsky spent more than 50 years of his life researching language. He discovered the concepts of generative grammar with the innate system, competence and performance, deep and surface, and mentioned an unlimited number of vocabularies, and other paradigms. He said all these concepts came from the human thought process as a rational being. Chomsky’s linguistic paradigm has a great influence on the development of science and is used in modern linguistic fields, such as computational linguistics, biolinguistics, and health psychology to study children’s language acquisition and therapy for various language disorders known as psycholinguistics.
